Why should I take a class from Northstar Continuing Education?

Our classes are text-based distance learning classes that offer continuing education graduate credits through Colorado State University-Pueblo. We offer classes on current topics that apply to a wide variety of academic disciplines. Students can study on their own time, whenever and wherever they want to. There is no need to be tied to the computer to access materials or make classroom appointments. There is no need to get up at 8 am on Saturday to make that Skype appointment with your instructor and no dreaded 3 hour evening classes after you've had an exhausting day of teaching your students. Study in your pajamas, at the lake, in the car or at the beach! We are here to answer any questions you may have to make your experience positive and productive.


 How long do I have to complete the coursework?

Students have 16 weeks (4 months) from the start date of the course to complete coursework. However, many students can complete the work in less time.


Can I get an extension if I need more time?

Yes, students may request an extension. Students must notify the instructor prior to the end of the class session to request an extension.


How do I receive my transcript?

After completion of the last assignment, final grades are submitted to the University within 48 hours. Once the grade is submitted, students can expect to receive their grade report in about 10 to 14 days. After you receive the grade report, you may request an official transcript at the following site below. Allow at least 10 to 14 days for processing.

How do I know if these courses apply to lane changes in my district?

Students are encouraged to receive prior approval from their districts if required to do so. All courses offered by Northstar Continuing Education through partinership with Colorado State University-Pueblo are regionally accredited through the Higher Learning Commission (HLC).

How many courses can I take at one time?

Students may take a total of 15 credits per semester. The University may also allow an an additional three credits.


When and how do I receive my class materials?

Students receive an electronic copy of the course instructions registration form and syllabus when payment is received. For courses through Colorado State University-Pueblo the text book is included in the price of the course. If taking the course for CEU credits the text book is purchased. There are directions for purchasing new, used and E-book texts in the course description web page on this website.


Who is eligible to take courses through Northstar Continuing Education?

These courses are appropriate for individuals who have previously earned a BA/BS from a regionally accredited institution such as, licensed general and special education teachers, social workers, school psychologists, academic coaches, occupational, physical and speech therapists, Title 1 instructors, adaptive physical education teachers and other school support staff.  Teachers who are not currently employed in a school district may also take these courses. All course assignments are geared toward past and present teaching experience. So, even if you have not been in the classroom for a while, that will not prevent you from benefiting from our classes. In some instances, paraprofessionals have also had the courses approved on an individual basis to meet their licensure requirements.

What if I have questions about the course content?

Can I contact the instructor? Yes, students are encouraged to contact the instructor before, during and after completion of their coursework. All emails and phone calls are returned within 24 hours. We are here to help you with any questions you may have regarding the assignments, readings or anything else that may be of concern. Your suggestions are always welcome.


Can I get a tax receipt?

Yes, if you need a tax receipt, please contact us at 763-219-8483 or at and we will provide you with that information.

How can I pay for the courses?

Payment may be made by credit card at our secure site  just click on the "PAY NOW button" that is on the course page you wish to take. Northstar Continuing Education also accepts personal checks, made payable to Northstar Continuing Education, PO Box 402, Anoka, MN 55303. Be sure to include your name, email, address and the course that you want to take. Payment may also be made by credit card at our secure site through PayPal.  


Is there a group discount or price break if I take multiple courses?

Yes, for individual students taking more than 1 course and for groups of 2 or more students taking the same class. If you and your colleagues are interested in taking a course together for the discount, be sure to email the instructor at with the names of everyone in your group. The following discounts apply:

2 or more 3 credit classes taken by 1 student: $15 discount per course.

Groups of 2 or more students: $15 discount per 3 credit class registration.
